Expanded, Explained, and Sometimes Extraordinary
Future of ChronoRadio and Rayzur's Edge Audio Discussed In all the hubbub with the impending launch of Fan Audio Made Easy and the recent mention of how long FAME and Other Voices might run, the subject has come up of just how long Rayzur's Edge Audio will be around in fan audio. We finally have some details to share. Rayzur's Edge started in 2002 with the May premiere of ChronoRadio and December premiere of Second Strike, which kicked off internet-released Star Wars audio dramas. Since then, REA has been responsible for two further radio shows (Other Voices, launched in June 2005, and Fan Audio Made Easy, which will launch on August 1, 2005). REA has also been the production house for the Anthology audio drama series (producing five episodes in-house in 2003 and acting as series coordinator for two more episodes, produced by Ear Candy), Always in Motion: Ambush on An'Kerra, and (in conjunction with Ear Candy again) Nothing Changes. As of now, we know that there will likely not be any further audio dramas coming directly from Rayzur's Edge Audio. Nothing Changes will soon be re-released as a Producer's Cut by Ear Candy, while an eighth episode of Anthology, entitled Kids, is in the hands of its writer, Gregory Harbin. No further episodes of Always in Motion are planned, and the Second Strike story was complete as of 2003. In terms of radio shows, we know that Other Voices is currently intended to run for only one year of episodes (four, since it's quarterly). If this remains the case, the final episode of its run will air on March 1, 2006. Fan Audio Made Easy is slated for a run of at least one year (24 episodes), but more likely two years (48 episodes, if it can be pulled off). After that, FAME, as a series, will end. The biggest surprise comes for ChronoRadio, the REA flagship series. With 2007 being such a crux for major anniversaries (30 years for ANH, 10 years for the Special Editions, 10 years for the Star Wars Timeline Project, and 5 years for both ChronoRadio and Second Strike), the current plan is that ChronoRadio will end its regular bi-monthly run in April 2007 and have a Special Edition episode (a retrospective on the series) that will be released in May 2007, the exact 5th Anniversary month for CR. For CR listeners, this means eleven more regular bi-monthly episodes (Aug. 2005 - Apr. 2007), two more commentaries (ROTS and Clone Wars Vol. II), one more Special Edition (May 2007), no more Serial Editions, at least one more Supplemental Episode (June 2006, covering ConCarolinas 2006), and at least three more Interview Editions (Michael Stackpole, Jeremy Barlow, and the editors of Star Wars and Philosophy--Kevin Decker and Jason Eberl). That's 18 more episodes for ChronoRadio before its planned end, if nothing changes between now and then. The Star Wars Timeline Gold should keep going after its tenth anniversary in 2007, and Star Wars Fanworks will also continue serving the fan audio community. More on this in the December edition of ChronoRadio, when topics for the 2006 (and possibly 2007) episodes of CR are announced.
