Expanded, Explained, and Sometimes Extraordinary
VaderCast Covers FedCon USA Controversy in Video Form While we eagerly await the next audio editions of the VaderCast podcast, we have recently been treated to an intriguing video look into a recent major fandom convention controversy. On June 14, shortly before noon, FedCon USA in Dallas, Texas, (the first ever FedCon USA, a convention aimed at Star Trek fans) was cancelled after it had already begun. VaderCast's Cole Houston and Tim Kennedy were there, and they have now released two video files, entitled FedCon USA: A Cautionary Tale. The first segment features the two hosts discussing the controversy and the weekend's events, while the second features a recording of the actual cancellation announcement and the ensuing questions from the assembled crowd. Princess Leia Organa is quoted in the opening pages of the A New Hope novelization as saying, "They were in the the wrong place at the wrong time. Naturally they became heroes." Here, we paraphrase, as, in this case, Cole and Tim were in the wrong place at the wrong time for fans. Naturally, they became fan audio's, and fandom's eyes and ears. (Our apologies to Star Trek fans who bristle at a Star Wars quote used in reference to their space saga of choice. We, as fellow sci-fi fans, sympathize with fellow fans, regardless of the franchise.) You can find both video files in the VaderCast podcast feed. VaderCast |
