As we approach Memorial Day, we continue our notes of recommendation for Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed, the History Channel special slated to air Monday night (9:00 p.m. Eastern) and, we believe, spark quite a bit of new, in-depth, educational discussion amongst the fan audio community's various podcasts.

We present here our review of SW:TLR:

For three decades, Star Wars has had an impact upon pop culture that cannot be ignored. For nearly as long, fans and scholars have debated the merits and flaws of George Lucas' saga. As we reach the thirtieth anniversary of A New Hope, several new books have been printed as studies on the saga and its roots in recent months (The Gospel According to Star Wars, Star Wars: Jesus, Star Wars on Trial, et al). However, until now, there had yet to be a video production that would take the exploration into the saga's historical, thematic, and mythological roots to any degree comparable to the publishing world's various Star Wars-centered books.

As we said, though, that was only "until now." The Legacy Revealed has finally fit that bill in a way that only a production of a celebrated outlet like the History Channel can provide.

Through a series of dedicated segments on everything from the hero's journey to science fiction serial influences and a plethora of interviews with politicians (such as Newt Gingrich, Nancy Pelosi), journalists (Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw), entertainment bigwigs (Stephen Colbert, Peter Jackson), and learned educators and intellectuals, the special delves into Star Wars as a legitimate social and literary phenomenon in a way that few have attempted before, and certainly none have before attained.

Any "thinking fan" of Star Wars will not want to miss The Legacy Revealed. If you've ever been enthralled by the intellectual discussions peppered throughout fan audio, you're in for a real treat and a nice way to celebrate the saga's anniversary.
