Expanded, Explained, and Sometimes Extraordinary
Other Voices Radio Show Announced Since 1999, fan-made Star Wars radio shows have been a staple of the fan audio genre. We've seen live shows (Jedi Talk and Star Wars en Direct), pre-recorded shows (Digital Llama Radio/2.0, The Cantina, ChronoRadio, Requiem of the Outcast, and Star Wars and Beyond), and even multi-lingual shows (Star Wars en Direct in French and The Cantina in German). In all of those cases, though, the shows have been spearheaded by a regular host or panel of hosts, whether it was a one-man project like Star Wars and Beyond or a project with a revolving panel of nearly ten people (Digital Llama Radio/2.0). Now, Star Wars Fanworks (in association with Rayzur's Edge Audio) is spearheading a new Star Wars fan radio show for the "little guy." The new show, Star Wars: Other Voices, is meant to be a quarterly (March, June, September, and December) program that would run for approximately one hour per episode. It would be in a "news magazine" format, similar to that of Dateline NBC or Fox News Magazine. The shows would therefore be made of several segments (approximately four segments of 5 - 10 minutes each) per show, with a host to tie it all together. What's the unique part? This show will consist entirely of segments created and recorded by members of the fan audio community itself. Rather than having a regular host and contributors, the project will be submission-based, and will accept submissions from anyone in the fan audio community that wants to participate, as long as they do not have their own radio show already. So, you won't be hearing regular voices like Rich Sigfrit, Sebastien Mineau, Nathan P. Butler, Robbie Chastain, or other familiar fan radio personalties, but be hearing from other fan audio fans, just like you, in each edition. At present, the plan is for Fanworks founder and ChronoRadio host/mixer Nathan P. Butler to act as Executive Producer the series (mixing it, but never appearing on-air). Anyone interested in participating would pitch a segment idea to Butler, who would then approve and schedule those segments. The person or group that submitted the idea would then record their segment, turn it in to Butler, and it would be mixed in with the other segments for that episode and released. So far, several fan audio personalities have shown an interest in contributing, including Bryan Patrick Stoyle (Always in Motion), Evan Stone (Tatooine TV), Casey Brown (Despair duology), and Michael Galasso (ChronoRadio: Matted). No segment topics have been pitched yet, and no segments have been slated. If you're interested, drop by the Fanworks message board on GalacticSenate.com and look for any threads starting with the phrase "Other Voices." We hope to hear from you! |
