German SF-Radio Launches 4-Part
Star Wars Cantina Radio Show

(source: SF-Radio.Net, 02-20-05)

Christopher Walker (To Overcome, Active Worlds Radio) dropped us a note last night to inform us of what appears to be a new Star Wars fan-made radio show (or at least a new Star Wars-based spin-off of a fan-made general science fiction radio show). We say "appears to be" because the primary site for the show, and the spoken language on the show up until these Star Wars episodes, are German, not English.

At present, here's what we know:

There is a German-language science fiction radio show made by fans of the genre, known as SF Radio, hosted out of SF-Radio.Net. That show seems to have been running for quite a while, with their most recent episodes being numbered in the 70s and 80s. Assuming that these were monthly releases, that would mean that the show has been around for over six years, or over one year if the show is weekly, or about three years if the shows are bi-weekly.

For the leadup to Revenge of the Sith, the SF Radio team has decided to produce a series of four special episodes, based entirely on Star Wars, which they are calling Star Wars Cantina (or Star Wars: The Cantina). The first of these episodes was released on Feb. 17. Here's the rundown from the English-language description on their site:

Just before the Dark Side will leap into our galaxy and turn Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader, in a desperate countdown, we want to show you Star Wars from its best side. For the next three months, we will invite you four times into the Star Wars Cantina, where the heroes and scumbags of the universe party until the destruction of the Death Star.

Today's [episode] features:

Movies (The Classic Trilogy):Dirk Wilkens and Marcus Erbar take a close look at the movies that started it all!

The DVDs: There's Something Different About Star Wars: For the release of the Classic Trilogy on DVD, Master Lucas changed them again, and Dirk Wilkens and Dennis Pauler know what's new.

Games: The Jedi Knight / Dark Forces Series: Jan Boysen takes a look at the games that tell us the story of the mercenary Kyle Katarn.

The Audio Adventures of Kyle Katarn: Markus Holler reviews the epic cinema for the ears, a true "must-have!"

Fans of Kyle Katarn that have been eagerly awaiting April's ChronoRadio: Tales on Pause or who got caught up in the fun last year with the release of Fanworks founder Nathan P. Butler's Kyle Katarn story in Star Wars Tales #21 should definitely check out the Kyle Katarn segment of the show, and fans of Star Wars fan radio shows in general should enjoy this new foreign outing.

At present, we are attempting to get ahold of the Star Wars: The Cantina team to set the up with an information and statistics page here on Fanworks (as we do with Star Wars en Direct). As soon as that is worked out, you'll find more info on the series here. To check it out right now, follow the link below.
