Requiem of the Outcast: Episode X
A Review by Jay Mustered

All-Grown-Up.com gets to lead off this edition of Requiem of the Outcast (ROTO), followed by the group's opening banter: anniversary gifts; heat' Janine's award-winning costume designs; con stories; Earl Newton; fan films; and making fun of gaming and gamers.

They favorably review Fall of a Saga, a comedy fan film, compared favorably to Tarantino. They move on to review the book Bones Burnt Black by Stephen E. Cobb, a hard sci-fi murder mystery, also favorably.

After the commercial break (for Bones Burnt Black and ROTO), they interview Joe Corroney, one of the artists in the Star Wars universe. They asked him about his drawing of General Grievous. (Where did he get the information to draw him? The Separatist symbol?) As well as a discussion of Joe Corroney's work. (To see his work go to JoeCorroney.com.)

That is, of course, followed by a commercial for StarWarsFanWorks.com!

Then we get the first panel from ConCarolinas 2004, dealing with fan audio production (the second panel can be heard on ChronoRadio #15.5). The panel consisted of the ROTO group (Rich, Ron and Janine) and Nathan P. Butler. The panel discussion begins by interviewing Nathan. The questions: How did you get started? What is the pitch process for Dark Horse? Nathan's thoughts on Ben Skywalker. Getting the story through the approval process. As well as the normal amount of Nathan bashing. This is followed by a live review of Fall of a Saga with one of the creators, as well as a discussion of Adult Check ID and polygamy and a "T-Shirt and CD game."

After the con segment, they remind us that the next ROTO will have the remaining portion of the Alan Dean Foster interview (from ChronoRadio's Interview Edition that handled the first half), as well as other writers. They had fun at ConCarolinas. They also begin dropping hints about their upcoming fan film.

The group is in good form, but a little less raucous than usual in the "home" pieces. They pick up the pace during the con segment, so if you enjoy their banter, you will enjoy. The ConCarolinas section is a good panel discussion.

The main negative is that during the live portion, the panel members are occasionally hard to hear and talk over each other from time to time. In fairness, the sound on this episode is better than some of the other live episodes from ConCarolinas.

A solid episode of ROTO, well worth the effort to download.
